4/18/22 Coastal HomeSchool Varsity Baseball Defeats St. Andrews 12-11

St. Andrew's Varsity Lions fought back after falling down by five runs in the seventh inning. The comeback fell just short though, in a 12-11 defeat to Coastal HomeSchool on Monday.  St. Andrew's Varsity Lions scored four runs in the failed comeback on a groundout by Tripp Jackson, a walk by Issac Ross, and a single by Anthony Kusilka.

St. Andrew's Varsity Lions fell behind early in the loss.  Coastal HomeSchool scored on a single by Tom Saunders and an error in the second inning.

After Coastal HomeSchool scored four runs in the top of the fifth, St. Andrew's Varsity Lions answered with four of their own.  Coastal HomeSchool scored when Jackson Byrom singled on a 2-2 count, scoring three runs and Jase Poppell singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.  St. Andrew's Varsity Lions then answered when Andrew Bacon doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, a sacrifice bunt by Xaiver Wilcox scored one run for St. Andrew's Varsity Lions, Cameron Helle singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, and an error scored one run for St. Andrew's Varsity Lions.

Coastal HomeSchool pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning.  In the second Saunders singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run and an error scored two runs for Coastal HomeSchool.

St. Andrew's Varsity Lions tallied four runs in the seventh inning.  St. Andrew's Varsity Lions offense in the inning was led by Jackson, Ross, and Kusilka, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Coastal HomeSchool scored four runs in the sixth inning.  Coastal HomeSchool's big inning was driven by walks by Byrom and Poppell and  by Saunders and Jake Howell.

Will Fussell was the winning pitcher for Coastal HomeSchool. The pitcher allowed eight hits and six runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one.  Butler and Jacob Feider entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.  Feider recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Coastal HomeSchool.

Luke Peaster took the loss for St. Andrew's Varsity Lions. The bulldog went three and a third innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out one.

St. Andrew's Varsity Lions scattered ten hits in the game.  Kusilka, Helle, Jackson, and Alec Waters each managed multiple hits for St. Andrew's Varsity Lions.  Waters, Jackson, Helle, and Kusilka all had two hits to lead St. Andrew's Varsity Lions.

Byrom led Coastal HomeSchool with three hits in four at bats.
