The St. Andrew's Lions put on a defensive masterclass Tuesday night, cruising to a decisive 53-29 victory over the Hilton Head Prep Dolphins. From the opening tip, the Lions' defense set the tone, holding the Dolphins scoreless in the first quarter and making it nearly impossible for them to find any offensive rhythm.
By halftime, St. Andrew's had built a commanding 29-5 lead, and their dominance continued into the third quarter. Hilton Head Prep didn't break double digits until five minutes into the third quarter, by which time the Lions were firmly in control, leading 36-11. Despite the Dolphins scoring 11 points in the final three minutes to close the gap, the game was never in doubt.
Ja'Cari Glover led the way for the Lions with a solid performance, notching his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Zayden Edwards delivered a well-rounded effort, contributing 10 points, 7 assists, 5 steals, and 5 rebounds in a true display of versatility. Meanwhile, MJ Scott provided a spark from beyond the arc, knocking down three 3-pointers en route to an 11-point outing.
After the game, Coach Mel Abrams praised the win but focused on improvement. "It is always good to win against Hilton Head Prep as they are a very well-coached team. However, we have more work to do when we return to practice tomorrow," Abrams said.
With the victory, St. Andrew's showcased their potential as a team built on tenacious defense and balanced scoring. They'll look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next matchup this Saturday when they take on Long County at the Pro Movement Showcase hosted by Bryan County High School.
